last night's 4th of July celebrations with sparklers in the backyard reminded me of the "chivas" in Cartagena - bright, colorful buses full of music and dancing, touring around the city. Moveable parties.

Also in 2009 - a work trip with time out to visit the Bavarian Hohenschwangau Castle, the official summer and hunting residence of King Maximilian and his family. His son Ludwig later built the fantastical Newschwanstein Castle, a very steep 40 minute walk away.
